Default port (1433) being set for instances

Apr 14, 2014 at 8:53 PM
When installing a SQL instance on a server with the Defualt instance already in use using port 1433, the SPADE tool assigns the same port number to the instance causing an error when starting the instance because the port is already in use.

Is there a way have a port dynamically assigned to an instance and not use the default port?

There is an error in one of the files.

File: Common\Get-PortNumber.ps1
Line: 28
Description of change: $port is coming in as a string, ALWAYS enters loop at line 28
Current State: if ($port -isnot [int])
Desired State: if (-not [bool]($port -as [int]))

More info here:

After fixing that open up Run-Install.config in the root folder and edit the following code to put in the port number you want (its not dynamic but you could randomly choose something)
      <Script Name="Get-PortNumber">
        <Param Name="PortNumber" Value="1433" />
